According to the indictment, Gastelum and daughter Rodriquez, used their position as caregivers for a 91-year-old Tucson woman to steal her identity, gain access to her bank account, apply for and obtain credit in her name, and overcharge her for care services they provided without her full knowledge and consent. As a result, the elderly victim suffered a loss of approximately $184,000.
“The Secret Service is committed to aggressively investigating financial crimes cases,” said Resident Agent in Charge Glenn Dennis of the Secret Service Tucson Resident Office. “This case highlights our outstanding relationship with the Tucson Police Department and U.S. Attorney’s Office. We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to investigate and prosecute those who attempt to defraud our most vulnerable citizens.”
Gastelum and Rodriquez are scheduled to appear before a federal judge for arraignment on November 16, 2018.
