United States Secret Service Director Sean M. Curran has named Matthew C. Quinn as the agency’s 24th deputy director, bringing back the veteran special agent to bolster his top leadership team.
Quinn, a former deputy assistant director for the Office of Protective Operations, retired from the Secret Service in 2021 after more than two decades and has been working as a top-level executive in the private sector.
“Matt Quinn’s return to the Secret Service is an excellent win for the agency and its personnel and promises to pay tremendous dividends in the years to come,” Curran said. “Matt has the technical expertise and proven leadership skills – both in the federal government and the private sector – needed to advance this agency and ensure success in its global protective and investigative missions. I am thrilled to have him back on board.”
Quinn most recently was senior vice president at Fortem Technologies in Pleasant Grove, Utah. In that role, he was responsible for developing and applying airspace safety and security solutions for law enforcement, military, and commercial stakeholders focused on detecting and defeating dangerous drones.
During his time with the Secret Service, Quinn also was the special agent in charge of the Special Operations Division. He held several other positions, including special agent in charge of the Office of Communication and Media Relations, special agent in charge of Protective Operations and acting special agent in charge of the U.S. Secret Service’s Charlotte Field Office.
Quinn began his law enforcement career in 1998 at the New York Field Office, conducting financial fraud investigations and serving as the primary liaison to the United Nations. He later worked as a supervisor in the Washington Field Office, and assistant to the special agent in charge at the James J. Rowley Training Center.
“Coming home to the Secret Service is an honor and a privilege,” Quinn said. “I look forward to working with the leadership team and law enforcement partners as the agency carries out its critical work in safeguarding our nation’s financial systems and protecting its leaders.”
Quinn is a graduate of Arizona State University and has a master’s degree from the National Defense University at the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy. He also is a graduate of the Key Executive Leadership Program at American University in Washington, D.C.
Quinn is a certified and appointed member of the federal Senior Executive Service. He has received numerous awards, including the Extraordinary Dedication in Investigations Award from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York and the Department of Treasury Valor Award for dedicated service and courageous actions on September 11, 2001.
